The Department of Commerce is one of the renowned Departments in H.H.The Rajah’s College (Autonomous), Pudukkottai which caters to holistic Commerce Education to the students from all the Groups of the society.
The Department of Commerce was established in the year 1949 with the aim to provide quality education on Commerce to the rural students. The M.Com Programme was introduced in the year 1968. The Department was elevated to Research status, with the introduction of Ph.D. Commerce in 1978 and M.Phil. Commerce in 1989. There are three sections in B.Com course. Total strength of the Department is 654 Students.
The Department is staffed with academically well qualified and experienced faculty members. 13 faculty members have completed their Ph.D. The Department is functioning successfully with four regular faculties, ten Guest Lecturers and one PTA Lecturer. The faculty members act as Mentors and are guiding the students especially in doing research work.
The Department has an exclusive library cater to the Commerce students. The Department library has a collection of 3277 number of books concerning commerce. During the Pandemic, Online classes were conducted by our staff members. With the increasing demand for Commerce courses, shift system was introduced in 2007. In order to meet out the increasing demand for Commerce courses, the admission strength of students has been increased from 150 to180 in UG and from 24 to 35 students in PG from the academic year 2021 - 2022.
Apart from the academics, students of commerce excel in various Co-curricular activities Quiz, Painting, Oratory, Essay writing, Folk dance, Mime, Weight lifting, Power lifting, Silambam and football.
