The Department of Hindi was started in 1959. Hindi is offered to the students at Part I level. Inspiring Men of Letters like Prof.ManavikramaPanikkar, Dr.N.Sridharan( a prolific writer of books in Tamil, English and Hindi) and Dr.P.Rajarethinam (now HOD of Hindi, Central University, Tiruvarur) had served the department with distinction. At present, Dr.S.Ganesan, Associate Professor of English who holds Praveen in Hindi is the Head in charge. Prof.V.Umarani (Guest Lecturer) handles the classes. The Department has had conducted quite a few Seminars, Webinars and Workshops ; sometimes, in collaboration with Departments of Tamil and English. The Dept., in collaboration with IQAC conducted a One Day national Workshop on Functional Hindi, Communication Skill and Personality Development on 26.3.2019. A Webinar was conducted on 28/5/2021 in which Dr.P.Rajaretnam (HOD of Hindi, CUTN, Tiruvarur) lectured on “SampreshanKaushal.” Prof. V.Umarani has participated in Seminars conducted by CUTN, National College-Trichy, A.V.V.M.Sri Pushpam College, Poondi etc. Quite a few students have participated in Seminars and Webinars.
