Department of Zoology was established in the year 2004 with a student intake of Tamil medium and English medium 20 each. Later M.Sc., Zoology was started in the academic year 2018- 2019 with intake of 20 students. The student intake for both medium of B.Sc., Zoology was increased to 40 each and for M.Sc. Zoology is 25 during the academic year 2021-2022.
The department has well equipped laboratory facilities to provide the practical training to the students. Highly qualified and experienced faculty with specialization in Molluscan Studies, Vermitechnology, Marine biology, Entomology, Pheromone biotechnology, Vermiculture, Fisheries and Environmental biology. Is the highlight of the department. The students are given exposure to develop entrepreneurship skills in accordance with curriculum in the fields of Aqua culture, Sericulture, Vermiculture and Mushroom cultivation. Through hands-on training, field trails, workshops and our reach programme. The faculties are also involved in the development of e-content which serves as reference source for student community.
